Organized by the Hong Kong Economic Association, or KHEA, and hosted by School of Economics, Nankai University, the 6th Biennial Conference of HKEA was held at Nankai University between 17th to 20th December.
Professor Mark R. Rosenzweig from Yale University, Professor Peter M. Robinson from London School of Economics and Political Science, and Professor Christopher R. Taber from University of Wisconsin gave their keynote speeches on ‘Human Capital Investment and the Gender Division of Labor in a Brawn-Based Economy’, ‘Nonparametric and Semiparametric Estimation with Spatial Economic Data’ and ‘Using Selection on Observed Variables to Address Selection on Unobserved Variables’ respectively.
5 keynote speeches, 42 concurrent sessions and 4 parallel invited speeches were arranged over the two-day meeting. In the Editors’ Summit, over 60 scholars from more than 30 internationally renowned universities carried out profound discussions over a wide range of topics, including financial economics, environmental economics, theories in industrial organizations, etc. Professor Yao Hongxin from STU Business School presented his essay, ‘Political Events, National Bias and International Trade—Evidence from Sino-Japanese Trade’, in the concurrent session. Professor Yao also expressed his opinions over FDI and applied economics.
