At the invitation of University of Manitoba and University of Victoria, Professor Lin Danming and Associate Professor Kong Ying visited the two universities in Canada between 24th to 28th April.
Founded in 1877, Manitoba University (MU in the following) is a public and comprehensive university which has the longest history and largest campus in western Canada. According to Ecole de Mines de Paris's ranking, UM is ranked 89th globally and Canada's 5th. Its Actuarial Studies program is among the top ten in North America. In 2000, Mr Li Ka Shing was awarded the International Distinguished Entrepreneur Award by the MU, making him the first Chinese entrepreneur to have that title.
In September 2010, a cooperative agreement was signed between STU Business School and the Asper School of Business of UM. This september, the Business School will be sending an exchange student to UM for one semester. During the visit at UM, Professor Lin Danming and Associate Professor Kong Ying met with Professor John E. Kearsey, the Vice President, Dr James Dean, director of the International Relations Office, Ms Rhonda Friesen, correspondent of international contact, Professor Charles Mossman, Acting Dean of Asper School of Business, Professor David Stangeland and Professor Nick Turner, Vice Deans of Asper School of Business, and Ms Tara Cleve, Coordinator of Student Exchange Program and Consultant of Student Affairs. Topics discussed include the internationalization of education, educational modules, mutual visits of faculties, collabrotive programs, etc.
Primary purposes of the visit at UM also include following up with details regarding the exchange program and to visit the educational and living facilities on campus.
Before the change of name to the University of Victoria (UV in the following) in 1963, the university's predecessor, Victoria College, was an institute with 60 years of history. The UV has been occupying the title as the top Canadian University for many years, while its Bubsiness Administration courses have significant reputation in North America and worldwide. In last August, 8 students of STU Business School were sent to participate in UV's ISIBM program. In the visit to UV, Professor Lin Danming and Associate Professor Kong Ying met with Dr Elangovan, Vice Dean of Faculty of Business School, Mr Brian Leacock, Associate Director of International Programs, Professor Saul Klein, Director of Centre for Senior Managers Training, Ms Li Yuxuan, Assistant of International Programs, and Associate Professor Shi Hui of the Faculty. Both parties discussed on a number of topics, including collaborative MBA projects, faculties training, teaching and research, student exchange programs.
