Professor from Peking University Visiting Economic Saloon Talks about The Reason of Economy Increase in China
On Sep 10, the first day of this new semester, Business School held a lecture covering politics, history, culture, and economy after the welcome freshman ceremony. Prof. Yao Yang from CCER in Peking University brought an economic saloon on 30 years, 60 years, and 160 years: the perspective of successful economy in China for Shantou University Business School.
Prof. Yao Yang was professor and Deputy Director of CCER in Peking University, also the editor of Economics Quarterly. He was a special visiting professor for Tianze Economy Institute, and part-time professor in Jiangxi University of Finance & Economics, School of Management in Shanghai University, Xi’an International Studies University, the vice editor of Agricultural Economics, and the academic member of China Economic Journal and Journal of Rural Cooperatives.
At the very beginning, Prof. Yao Yang told the three great achievements gained by China for last 30 years: fast development in economy, average growing rate 9.8%, and turned from planned economy to market economy. Compared to Soviet Union and other socialistic countries, the economy transferring in China went smoothly, and took relatively short time.
Prof. Yao Yang explained why the economy in China could grow quickly. It lied in that Chinese people have a diligent tradition; the low level of economy in the past; and the cost of human right. But the powerful reason was the transferring to market economy.
After that, Prof. Yao Yang talked about Chinese Government playing an important role in the period of increasing. Then he turned to discuss the cultural tradition that affected economic development in China for the last 160 years, which was a flying between time and space.
The speech made all the people present to experice a knowledge banquet, to feel what was real scholar. He made a great success.
