Shantou University Business School have selected Jiaqi Zhao(2010, Accounting)to participate in the exchange program with University of Manitoba, Canada in 2013 fall semester. University of Manitoba is a public comprehensive university, found in 1877. According to Ecole de Mines de Paris ranking for universities in the globe, Asper Business School ranks 89th among all the business schools in the world, and ranks 5th in Canada.
From 26th Aug to 18th Dec, Jiaqi Zhao had taken 4 courses including New Venture Analysis, Learning to Lead, Personal Financial Planning and Investment, together with the other exchange students from all over the world and the local students. She has passed the strict courses and impressed by the advanced education system, intriguing teaching methods and the freedom of class atmosphere. Taking New Venture Analysis as an example, students are required to write a report about the commercialization of the achievements in scientific research done by University of Manitoba. In order to finish the report, students need to collect lots of market statistic by searching relative data base, interviewing company staff and consulting the local governments.
Apart from the academic study, diverse extra circular activities run by different student organizations play vital roles in the exchange program. For example, foreign language exchange program held by ICS offer students a chance to learn or improve a second language. AIMS had welcome the new international students by arranging an orientation camping. The Student Union encouraged students to join in the Cheese & Wine Party to build the connection with the business elites in Manitoba. UMMA held the international marketing competition every year and of course exchange students can also participate in. In the activities, Jiaqi Zhao had fully experienced the Canadian culture and International education.
These experiences have improved Jiaqi’s English skills, expanded her horizon and helped her future study and career in a tremendous way. Meanwhile, the beautiful scenery of Canada has left her a long lasting memory and become an important part of her life.
