Honored Guest of Shantou Dialogue Albert Ip Talked about Credit Doctrine 

On November 19th, 2008, Mr. Albert Ip, the honored guest of Shantou dialogue, had delivered a wonderful speech to students and teachers of Business School. The topics included: (1) Credit Doctrine of Lending Officers/Relationship Bankers and (2) Graduate and Professional Education at Washington University in St. Louis;
 
Albert Ip has been Managing Director of Investments in Private Banking and Investment Group, Pacific Rim at Merrill Lynch (Asia Pacific) since 3/3/08. From 1987-2007, Mr. Ip held a number of senior positions at Citigroup in Asia which included:  Managing Director and Asia Regional Investment Finance Head (Global Wealth Management), Managing Director and Head of Global Transaction Services and Financial Institutions, Financial Institutions and Global Relationship Banking Head, Corporate Banking Head, Commercial Banking Head, North Asia Real Estate Head and Real Estate Head- Hong Kong. From 1977-1987, Mr. Ip worked in Price Waterhouse, Citigroup and First National Bank of Chicago in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, New York and San Francisco. He was lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh part-time MBA program. He is currently advisory member of Lingnan University, Business Studies in Hong Kong and International Advisory Council for Asia of Washington University, St. Louis
 
Mr. Albert Ip divided his lecture into two parts. In the first part, he introduced the topic ‘Credit Doctrine of Lending Officers/Relationship Bankers’ in detail from eight aspects. They are: 1. Lending, which is three dimensional, consists of borrower, competition and market / industry; 2. Risk asset process flow; 3. Documentation & Disbursement; 4. Loan portfolio; 5. Lending is an art, requiring good judgment, well structured / loan covenants, effective documentation, understanding your customer, and so on. 6. What can go wrong in a leading; 7. What went wrong in today’s financial crisis? 8. The principles of 3C’s guiding lending – Character, Character and Character.
 
Then, Mr. Albert Ip told us the situation of ‘Graduate and Professional Education at Washington University in St. Louis’ in the second part of the lecture, as well as the basic information of Washington University in St. Louis. It ranks NO.12 in "the best university in 2009" and its Graduate School is also among the best in " the best American Graduate School in 2009". Washington University in St. Louis now has established cooperation with a few well-known colleges and universities in China, such as Tsinghua University, Beijing University, Fudan University, and so on.
 
After the speech, Mr. Albert Ip also conducted an interactive exchange with teachers and students of Business School; he has a wealth of practical experience in the financial industry so that listeners have benefited a lot.
