On March 22nd, the teachers and students of the Business School enjoyed a wonderful speech on career and life planning together in the third meeting room in communicating building. Mr. Larry Wang, who comes from Wang Li Asia Resources brought an economic Sharon “The Essentials to Know the Game, Play the Game”.
Mr. Larry Wang is the founder of Wang Li Asia Resources which is famous company for personnel recruiting and career development training. Wang Li Asia Resources is specialized in recommending local or returned talents and overseas Chinese with bilingual skills and high quality to those transnational corporations located in China. Mr. Wang has two books. New Gold Mountain, intended mainly for the readers who are talents with backgrounds of overseas was completed in May, 2001. Know the enemy and know yourself was finished in August, 2001. Its readers are mainly local talents with high quality. These two books are the essence of Mr. Wang’s practical experience for so many years, catering to the urgent need for local talents in transnational corporations in China now. They also offer professional career developing suggestions to the talents with corresponding technology, bilingual skills and internationalized quality.
On the opening speech Mr. Wang stressed that the key to successful career advancement is to prove one’s ability and achievement to the decision-makers and thus affects them. Mr. Wang emphasized that there are seven key points to pay attention to in order to “know the enemy and know yourself. First, job seekers or subordinates need to understand what are the most important qualities and abilities that the decision-makers appreciate. Understanding this point, with target, you can focus on these aspects and thus avoid being misled by the false or invalid information. Second, you should pursue excellence and super excellence, upgrade your capability and seek for perfect performance. Third, it’s important to develop your “soft skills” such as interpersonal skills and work at improving your vision of internationalization and the ability to work in a world-wide field and achieve the standard of top talent. Fourth, do a good job in planning the future development. From now on, objectively assess your current shortage of your skills and strengths and reserve capacity for the future career development. Fifth, apply the experience learned to practical work, make a perfect plan to achieve your goal, seek for better and faster development and get success in career development step by step. Sixth, use every chance and possibility to improve yourself, develop your ability and make the greatest progress. Seventh, know know the enemy and know yourself. Fully understand the job market, prepare yourself well in ability and technology or other areas, develop your own competitive advantages and then successfully make the upgrading and professional development.
Mr. Larry Wang did not only delivered a speech covering the field of job-hunting, but he also communicated with the teachers and students in attendance on the topics of family and friends which benefited the audience a lot and made them really know Mr. Wang’s charm as a successful professional man. His speech also offered a lot of valuable suggestions and help for the future career development to the students of Business School in Shantou University. The questioning and interacting part after the speech made all those who were present then feel Mr. Wang’s warmth and sincerity. The lecture ended in a round of warm applause at last.
