On the afternoon of May 8, 2009, Dr. BU Xiangzhi led students who selected "Logistics and Supply Chain Management" (28702/28703) to visit Shantou International Container Terminals to conduct a study tour. International Container Terminal’s Customer Service Manager HUANG Wenqing described the operation of terminal processes in detail to the students. So students understood the actual operation of the port’s logistics details and appreciated the difficulty of the actual operation of logistics and inspired the students to solve practical problems with theoretical knowledge. During this period, the students asked many questions that they were interested in but didn’t understand and Mr.Huang answered them with patience.
It is learned that the Shantou International Container Terminals are the joint venture company of Hutchison Whampoa’s Delta Port and Shantou Port. It is the first dedicated container terminal in Shantou Special Economic Zone which started operating by 1997. Terminal is located in Shantou, Guangdong Province coast, and it is one of Hutchison Whampoa’s Delta Port’s t four coastal ports and three river ports. Shantou International Container Terminals is a member of Hutchison Port Holdings. HPH is a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Limited Company which is the world's largest port investment, development and operation of the business, operations in over 25 countries such as Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Australasia. Hutchison Whampoa’s ports currently have 49 ports and have a total of 300 parking spaces for the right to operate. In 2008, Hutchison Whampoa global container port throughput reached 67.6 million TEUs.
