Passing Love One – The Business School Young Volunteers Association Activity of Blood Donating
On Dec 7, 2008, the activity of blood donating was held downstairs of the Second Students’Canteen on the campus. The Business School Young Volunteers Association cooperated with the Shantou University Young Volunteers Association to organize this activity with the assistance of Shantou Branch Red Cross Society of China and Shantou Branch Central Blood Station and had a great success.
At 8am, staff of Shantou Branch Red Cross Society of China and Shantou Branch Central Blood Station got ready early in front of the campus store downstairs of the Second Students’ Canteen. The student staff of the Business School Young Volunteers Association cooperated and the Shantou University Young Volunteers Association specified each one’s job responsibilities with the guidance of medical staff. Volunteers came to the activity venue one after one. Then the blood donating activity started. The number of blood donating students was growing during lunch hours. It came to a climax during the period from 11am to 2:30pm. Medical staff and student staff were well organized even though volunteers were so many at the venue, guiding student volunteers to fill out registration form, take a health exam and take a blood sample. Many student volunteers got to know related details about blood donating beforehand and were well prepared because the association had done a great job in promotion in advance, which helped a lot since medical and student staff can take measures more easily.
Within one day, 574 students took part in the blood donating activity among whom 71 students became volunteers for donating Hematopoietic Stem Cell. Last year 343 students took part in the blood donating activity among whom 147 students became volunteers for donating Hematopoietic Stem Cell. The data shows that the cooperation of the Business School Young Volunteers Association and the Shantou University Young Volunteers Association won a great success.
The activity let more people on the campus of Shantou University know about the fierce situation of blood diseases and advocated more students to become volunteers donating blood and Hematopoietic Stem Cell. The organizers believe leukemic patients can get more survival chances if the general population can know more about leucocythemia, concern more about leukemic patients and expand the Chinese Marrow Donor Program(CMDP).
