The 4th (2011) Academic Seminar of the Business School was held on 2nd April. Professor Yu Miaojie of NSD and NCER of Beijing University was invited to give a lecture on 'Productivity and FDI'. Professor Yao Hongxin chaired the seminar. Dean Xu Zongling of STU Business School attended the lecture.
In the beginning of the lecture, Professor Yu introduced the background of his research to give the attendees a brief understanding of his studies: 1, relationship between productivity and FDI; 2, relationship between investment amount and productivity; He argues that the willingness to invest and productivity are positively related and less developed regions are more attractive to enterprises with low productivity, while enterprises from a nation with an abundant labour force tend to be more willing to invest outside home. The conclusions are thus there are vigorous connections among productivity, motivation and investment amount. On the other hand, there are no explicit relations, according to Professor Yao, exist among investment decisions, amount and availability of labour force.
In the end of the seminar, Dean Xu Zongling announced the decision to invite Professor Yao to be a guest lecturer for the Business School.
