On May 6th, 2023, the first symposium on regional country and overseas Chinese and the construction validation of the institute of regional country and overseas Chinese studies was successfully held at Shantou University.

Vice President Liu Wenhua, extended a warm welcome to all the guests, introduced the educational environment and development vision of Shantou University, and expressed his great expectation for the establishment of the Institute of Regional Country and Overseas Chinese Studies.

Firstly, Prof. Chen Jie introduced the information of regional country studies to the participants, and then, Associate Prof. Li Song explained the preparatory work for the construction of regional country studies.
Prof. Zheng Muqiang suggested that the institute should focus on the research characteristics of overseas Chinese and economic cooperation in the countries along "the Belt and Road" with the core goal of declaring the next round of the first-class interdisciplinary master's degree and the country study platform of the Ministry of Education, and also focus on the research of overseas Chinese, economic cooperation and Chinese language education in other countries.

On the afternoon of May 6th, 2023, The 34th and 35th Chaoshan Economic Forum was successfully held in Meeting Room E401, Xingdong. Prof. Cao Yunhua, Vice President of China Southeast Asian Studies Association, and Prof. Wang Qin, School of International Relations, Xiamen University, were invited to share their views on the theme of "the Belt and Road".
