Introduction to School of Business

 

School of Business Shantou University is one of the earliest schools established by Shantou University. With the cultivation principle of "Spiration, Knowledge, Perseverance, Achievement", the School of Business is committed to advancing with the times and developing global competence. With the mission of “educating tomorrow’s business managers with global perspectives, craftsmanship spirit, ability to innovate and willingness to take responsibility”, the School establishes an interdisciplinary talent training system of “Artificial Intelligence and Big Data plus Business Studies”. It combines interdisciplinary integration, the enhancement of integrated thinking ability, and the cultivation of entrepreneurial and innovative capabilities.


The School has been selected as The Pilot College of Undergraduate Teaching Quality and Teaching Reform Project in Guangdong Province and Guangdong Provincial Practice Base for University Students. The School also owns Research Institute for Guangdong-Taiwan Business Cooperation of Shantou University, a provincial key base for humanities and social sciences research in universities, Key Laboratory of Digital Management and Smart Governance in East Guangdong, a provincial key laboratory for philosophy and social sciences in universities, and Guangdong Provincial University’s Characteristic and New Think Tank - Shantou University China-ASEAN Research Center and International Collaborative Institute for New-Quality Productivity Research. The School currently owns 2 first-class postgraduate programs of Business Administration and Applied Economics, and 3 professional master degree programs in Master of Business Administration (MBA),  Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc), Master of Engineering Management (MEM), 5 undergraduate programs of Business Administration, Accounting, International Economics & Trade, Finance, Marketing Management and Digital Economy:

There are 104 staff members in the School, including 75 faculty (44% are professors). To be specific, 99% of the faculty members have doctoral degrees and more than 44% of the faculty members have overseas study and work experience. More than 40% of them have been selected for the university’s Outstanding Talent Plan. Most of the faculty members have obtained their doctoral degrees from renowned universities at home and abroad, such as Lancaster University in the UK, the Bortar University in Canada, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Xiamen University, and the University of Hong Kong.


The School attaches great importance to teaching reform and research. We are advancing a new business education practice characterized by "AI+" and interdisciplinary approaches, undertaking cross-disciplinary upgrades and transformations across all majors, such as Intelligent Accounting, Forensic Accounting, Big Data and Business Intelligence (within Business Administration), and Digital Economy. Courses like Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, and Fundamentals of Python Data Analysis have been established as compulsory public courses. Additionally, a series of textbooks integrating "Artificial Intelligence & Big Data + Business Studies" have been launched. Over the past three years, the school has achieved multiple high-caliber teaching outcomes with demonstrative and replicable value, including 1 provincial-level teaching achievement award, 2 provincial-level excellent educational case awards, 1 third prize in the provincial-level teaching innovation competition, 5 provincial-level teaching reform projects, 1 Ministry of Education-sponsored industry-academia collaborative education project, and 11 published pedagogical research papers by faculty members. Furthermore, the school boasts 2 national-level first-class undergraduate courses and 11 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses (including 2 ideological and political demonstration courses), along with 1 provincial-level demonstration course.

 

School of Business has formed academic teams with distinctive directions such as Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management, Organization and Marketing Management, Accounting and Financial Management, Big Data and Supply Chain Management, Industrial Economics, etc. In the past three years, the School has published 189 academic papers, including 93 indexed in SCI/SSCI (2 of which are UTD24 journal papers) and 61 indexed in CSSCI. The School has also published 9 books, including 3 textbooks and 6 monographs/translations. 

 

In line with the trend of internationalization of business administration education, the school has accelerated its internationalization strategy and joined the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), Silk Road Entrepreneurship Education Network (SREEN), Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS) and has obtained the official membership of the Business Graduates Association (BGA), an international accrediting body for business education. In March 2023, School of Business has achieved the golden accreditation of the Business Graduates Association (BGA) which demonstrates its positive impact on students and society, against independent international quality standards.


The School has also established partnerships with overseas institutions in the USA, Canada,Russia,UK,France,Ireland,New Zealand,Australia, Singapore, Thailand,South Korea, The United Arab Emirates, Italy, etc., sending students to study abroad every year and providing students with a unique international and local learning experience.

 

The graduates of the school are highly recognized by well-known enterprises at home and abroad, such as Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Ping An Insurance Company of China, China Life Insurance Company, China Mobile, China Telecom, China Overseas, Country Garden, China Resources, Tencent, Suning, BYD, HSBC, P&G, Watson, Johnson&Johnson, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Luxottica. In recent years, more than 30% of the graduates have been employed by Fortune Global 500 Enterprises and Top 500 Chinese Enterprises. In 2024, a total of 52 students with a promotion rate of 15.95% were admitted by The University of Sydney(Australia), Columbia University(USA), University of Leeds(UK), University of Southampton(UK), University of Macau, University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai National Accounting Institute, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Jinan University and other well-known universities at home and abroad.

 

Under the support of government and leadership, Shantou University School of Business will continue to develop and make greater contributions to the harmonious development of China's society and economy, with the mission of “educating tomorrow’s business managers with global perspectives, craftsmanship spirit, ability to innovate and willingness to take responsibility.
