From February 21st to 27th, 2010, John Molson Undergraduate Business Case Competition (JMUCC) which was held by the Canadian well-known John Molson Business School took place at the Hilton Hotel in Montreal, Canada. Lucy Liu, Mia Liang, Dante Luo, Leo Li who coached by Professor Wenli XIE participated with 20 top Business Schools from all over the world in the fierce competition.
This year’s JMUCC was divided into two parts: 3-hour’s round robin and 24-hour’s qualifying. At the 3-hour’s round robin, four team members need to complete the analysis and recommendation of the real corporate strategy in a closed environment with only two laptops. The 24-hour’s qualifying tests contestants’ abilities to use Internet resources to the complete analysis, recommendation, implementation and financial assessment of a real corporate strategy effectively.
Shantou University Business School played in the group with three traditionally strong teams: host Concordia University John Molson Business School, Singapore Management University and the University of British Columbia. Our teammates won over University of British Columbia team with a score of 8:3 in round-robin.
During the week of competition, our JMUCC team and Professor Wenli XIE communicated with professional judges. The judges not only highly praised our performance and fluent English presentation skills, but also gave us valuable professional suggestions. All the judges encouraged us to get even more outstanding achievements in the future competitions.
In the end, the first three winners were Royal Roads University, HEC Montreal and Concordia University. Our JMUCC team also exchanged ideas with these strong teams and brought back valuable experiences from Montreal. We hope that Business School students can go further in the future international case competitions.
