At the invitation of the committee of The 3rd Annual Conference of the International Forum for Contemporary Chinese Studies (IFCCS3), Professor Du Mian from Shantou University attended the forum between 17th and 19th of September in Jiaotong University of Xi An.
Co-hosted by School of Economics and Finance of Jiaotong University (SEFJTU) and Institute of Contemporary Chinese Studies of University of Nottingham (ICCSUN), the discussion agenda focused on the post crisis development of China. Professor Lu Tianjian and Professor Christopher Rudd, the Vice president and Vice Chancellor of the respective universities, delivered the opening speech. Professor Christopher Rudd, Professor Lowell Dittmer from University of California Berkley, Professor Yao Shuhao from ICCSUN and Commissioner of National Bureau of Statistics of China Mr. Ma Jiantang attended the forum and gave lectures. The forum was also attended by Dean Feng Genfu and CPC Secretary Zhang Wenke of SEFJTU, as well as professors, academics and students from all around the globe. The wide participation can be seen an example that the rise of China has been attracting more research attention of economists to the social and economics issues in China.
In a brief summary of the previous IFCCSs, the first forum was held in November 2008 in University of Nottingham. With the participation of 150 delegates from 17 countries, the discussion focused on ‘China in the post Olympic era, globalization and sustainable development after 30 years of reform’. Chinese State Councilor Ms Liu Yandong and 8 ministers attended the opening ceremony. In September 2009, University of Nottingham hosted the second IFCCS under the theme of ‘rethinking revolution and reform: review and perspective for the 60th anniversary of the PRC’.
