The 2nd (2011) Academic Seminar of the Business School was held on 30th March. Dr Zhang Fan of Nankai University was invited to give a lecture on 'The Microstructure of Morgage Market'. Professor Du Mian of STU Business School chaired the seminar.
Dr Zhang began his lecutre by introducing 3 topics of his research, including the influence that mortgage flauds may bring to dwelling price, the competition and products in the mortgage market, and product differenciation in a monopolistic market. Dr Zhang concluded that the identification and management of risks are important. Moreover, innovations in the financial market should be overseen with cautiousness. News announced by banks and insights conveyed in mortgage interest rates, as argued by Dr Zhang, should be taken into consideration in analyzing any differenciating factors, as well as the interaction among banks, supervising bodies, mortgage market and residential market.
In the end of the lecture, discussions relevant to the topic were carried out. Interaction between the lecturer and audiences was very much active.
