In order to improve students’ business abilities, and provide them an opportunity to experience business education in North America, Business School selected one student, Yanjun Chen, to participate in the program of 2012 International Summer Institute for Business Management (ISIBM) held by University of Victoria in Canada in this July.
From July 4th to 29th, Yanjun Chen studied with students from Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Macao and several inland colleges. They also lived together and enjoyed the program. The ISIBM program consisted of two parts, “Business Communication” and “International Business, Innovation of Entrepreneurship & Enterprises, and Service Industry Management”.
During the one month program, Chen was deeply impressed by the advanced education philosophy in North America and culture shock between east and west. During this month, not only did Chen learn more knowledge, but also she broadened her horizon.
In the module of “Business Communication”, Professor Brian Leacock, the Associate Director of International Program gave the students a lively introduction. Through case study and analysis, participants have improved their writing and oral presentation skills. The second module, “International Business, Innovation of Entrepreneurship & Enterprises, and Service Industry Management”, included three courses. Besides, the University of Victoria arranged various extracurricular activities and events to help participants explore Canadian culture and know more about Victoria as well.
In the final exams, Yanjun Chen gained excellent grades. Moreover, she was awarded “BEST ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURE” for her excellent performance in the final project.
Shantou University Business School keeps promoting the communication with the Business School of the University of Victoria in terms of faculty, student and academic areas since December in 2009. The ISIBM has been held for three years and received good feedback from the participants.
