Lan Zou, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Hong Kong Economic Herald and one of the specially invited researchers of Unirule Institute of Economics, was invited by Business School as a guest speaker for the 113th Economic Forum to deliver a speech titled “The Difficulty of Family Business Inheritance”. This speech was presided by Professor Guang Tian from Business School.
Professor Zou listed several facts to show the risk of inheritance between generations. After that, he also showed some data and contrasts to explain the different situation of family business inheritance in China and the west. In addition, Professor Zou summarized three main reasons leading to the poor situation of Chinese family firms. The first one is that the young generation is not so willing to take charge of family business and there is a lack of professional code of ethics among managers s. The second reason is that the old generation is losing faith in the youngsters. At last, he pointed out that the scale of enterprises could be another factor affecting business inheritance.
Faculty members and students actively interacted with the speaker in the Q&A session. The 113th Economic Forum was successfully concluded.
