Competition and Broadband Internet Adoption
On Sept. 22nd, Dr. Brian Viard, from Cheung Kong Graduate Scholl of Business, delivered a wonderful lecture on “Competition and Broadband Internet Adoption” to students and teachers at ACC Rm#5.
At the beginning of the speech, Dr. Brian Viard briefly introduced the current situation of the internet adoption in the United States. Then, he focused on how competition affects the adoption of broadband Internet access in America. Based on his research models, Dr. Brian Viard showed the audience how he went about conducting his research, to assess to what degree competition among providers stimulates broadband adoption, properly controlling for the decisions by providers of which markets to enter.
In the course of the lecture, Dr. Brian Viard friendly interacted with students by questions and discussion, making the atmosphere of scene relaxing and active. And the students in the audience learned better ideas of how academic research is conducted.
INTRODUCTION:
Dr. Brian Viard is an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Economics at Cheung Kong GSB. He received his Ph. D. in Business Economics from the University of Chicago in 2000, and an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Prior to joining Cheung Kong GSB, he was an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at Stanford University. His research focuses on Industrial Organization, Economics of Competitive Strategy, Applied Microeconomics, Telecommunications, Information Goods, Pricing, Entry, Switching Costs and Loyalty Programs.
