Since then, visiting professors of STU Business School and Professor Xu Himing of RENMIN UNIVERSITY of CHINA also made speeches, emphasizing the importance of scientific research and the scientific research to universities, and wish the workshop to be held successfully. In the morning, there were four wonderful speeches by Professor Daphne Yiu, Professor Dora Lau and Professor Chi-Sum WONG of Department of Business Administration in Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Professor Ako Doffou of Business School of Shantou University.

First of all, Professor Daphne Yiu, gave a speech on "Publishing on Quality Management Journals". She started from three aspects, first introduced the evaluation criteria in the journal publication, and then pointed out three scientific design methods (based on theory, based on the phenomenon, based on the structure), finally used the case of Asian management research as a summary.

Subsequently, Professor Dora Lau, gave a speech on "How to select publishable research topics?". Shen started from the subject of the publishable topics, described their source and evaluation criteria. Then she also discussesed the existing problems of the development of scientific research and the relevant academic issues with the audience.

He pointed out the general publication rate of the papers in different degrees and provides a strategic guide to improve the publication rate of individual papers.

After a brief lunch break, the afternoon was continued by Professor Chi-Sum WONG, who presented the relevant guidance on the topic "How to make responses to editors and reviewers". He used different types of reviewers to analyze how they review the article from different angles, and also as a writer how to make a different response to various reviewers.

All day long, the participants have gained a lot of experience and materials. Finally, on the welcome dinner at ACC restaurant, everyone turned back to reality from the academic atmosphere. First day of “Writing and Publishing" Workshop was gradually nearing the end.

On the morning of Jun. 6th, the round table discussion was held in the 3rd conference room of ACC, chaired by Dean Lu, Dr. Daphne Yui, Dora Lau, CS Wong, Steve Bu and Ako Doffou. This round table discussion was mainly to explain some of the issues raised up yesterday and to open for new questions. Firstly, they discussed why the articles that one submit should be Asia relevant or China relevant. One has to identify the target audiences first, trying to reach as many as possible, which means the articles have to be generalized or specialized according to which group of people one is targeting at. Secondly, the articles should be convincing enough. For instance, the search on leadership in China, try to generalize your theories into similar aspects of other cultures or countries, to compare and contrast, making it more global influential.

Thirdly, they discussed about anonymity or whom you want to review your papers when submitted. It is suggested that you had better turn to those with similar or related knowledge and experience, which may help your papers to be published. Do not take it personally, but to be professional and persuasive in order to defend yourself. Whether there is bias or not is just a believe that not trusting the system will only demotivate yourself. Being turned down many times means you have more chances to upgrade your papers. But also to reflect and review if your paper is rejected many times for the similar reasons, which means there is a fundamental problem. Fourthly, to publish papers in other fields outside your major, you ought to cooperate with those specialized in the fields and to analyze from different aspects, to have a better package. Other issues concerning publishing papers were also discussed.

In the second half, two presentations were delivered. Dr. Kelly Deng Hemming who comes from Bong Kong Hue An University, gave a speech on the topic of “Surviving in heavy teaching load and limited research support”. By introducing her daily “jobs” both at school and at home, Dr. Kelly vividly explained how time was limited and what kind of obstacles she had faced. Not enough recognition and peer pressure enable her to rethink what she needs for doing research, what she wants and time management. Lastly she explained the affect of working with emotionally intelligent people. All things work together for good is what she managed to show us.

Professor Weiwen Li from Sun At-sen University gave a speech on the topic of “How to publish management papers in international journals with Chinese data?” Pro. Li started with the struggling process of publishing some of his papers by comparing his unpublished papers with those of similar research fields but succeeded. He emphasized the Comparative Advantage Theory of Competition, explaining how national advantage and disadvantage are related and how these can have influence on scholars doing research in and on China. To get the reviewers being supportive, you have to come up with great idea or interesting and very hard to get data. Finally, Pro. Li introduced the double diamond model, leading to the conclusion of collaboration between national advantage and disadvantage.

Dean Lu made a conclusion of today’s discussion and presentation, then appreciated the effort of all faculties, marking the successful ending of this workshop.
