McGill Students Visited STU for Summer Program

, led by Professor William Polushin from McGill University Desautels Management School, 25 McGill students visited STU for Summer 8-day Learning Program.
At noon on May 7th, McGill delegation arrived in Shantou University excitedly, then went to Hongyi dormitory where they lived in. After a short rest, McGill group visited medical school, library and the truth of the bell. In the evening, McGill group and Professor Lu Yuan, the Dean of Shantou University Business School, Prof. Kong Ying, Director of International Program, and student buddies had dinner at ACC. With the more and more understanding of each other, McGill students developed friendships with student buddies.
According to the schedule, on the morning of May 8th, despite the jet-lag, McGill students went to classroom and listened carefully of the lecture provided by Associated Professor Dennis Lee of the current situation of Business in China, which made them have a deeper understanding of the development of Chinese Business. In the afternoon, under the organization of International Exchange Office of Business School, McGill students learned about Chinese tea culture. What’s more, they enjoyed the process of making tea by themselves. In the evening, Associated Professor Dennis Lee led McGill students and the volunteers to take part in team building activities together. In all activities, students not only had a lot of fun, but also gained the knowledge about team building.
With learning of the Chinese culture, the group attended the lecture Business in China delivered by associate professor Dennis Lee on the evening of May 9th, and the lecture of Language and Culture instructed by Betty Jin. With a strong cultural atmosphere, teachers and students discussed the unique business environment and cultural background in China.
Through the 2-day of indoor studying, on the morning of May 10th, under the organization of the International Exchange Office of Business School, all the teachers and students of McGill went to BangBao Toy Factory for visiting. They were extended a warm welcome by staffs. During the visit, the students communicated enthusiastically with employees. In the afternoon, directed by the Pro.F Anna R. Gasiorowska, marketing professor of Shantou University business school, McGill students went to Sirio Pharma to learn about its history and know more about its process of manufacturing products. In order to express their gratitude, the students also prepared gifts for the representatives of the two companies.
During 1 day outdoor experience, McGill students applied what they have learned into the enterprise visiting. On the morning of May 11th, they back to classroom, and Professor Xie introduced the culture and history of Chaoshan Businessman to McGill students. Students paid attentions and asked questions to professor, and they acquired the knowledge of how to communicate and do business with Chaoshan businessman. Directed by Miss Lin, students experienced the Chinese traditional sport called shuttlecock. They not only had fun, but also strengthened the knowledge of Chinese culture and team spirit. In the afternoon, Professor Anna introduced Chinese business to McGill students, which deepened their acknowledgement of Chinese business.
Under the organization of the International Exchange Office of Business School, on the morning of May 12th, Professor William Polushin and students from McGill University Desautels Management School visited LAF China Co Ltd, one of famous household chemicals company. Workers introduced company’s scale and situation of household chemicals industry in China. In the end, the secretary of CEO sincerely responded to students’ questions towards LAF. This company visit provided a valuable opportunity for McGill students to learn more about doing business in China and had a great impact on their study. In the afternoon, McGill students had a course of Doing Business in China in the seminar room. In this day, they had a better understanding of how to do business in China through company visit.
After 5-day of the studying of Doing Business in China and Chinese culture learning, on May 13, the McGill group students had a relaxing and enjoyable "City Culture Tour". They took a bus to visit Shantou distinctive cultural attractions "Xiao GongYuan" and "XiTi Park". Subsequently, continued with the journey to Chaozhou and arrived at Chaozhou restaurant at noon. In the afternoon, teachers and students visited HanWenGong Temple, GuangJi Bridge and Arch Street, which are all have a long history, then the local specialties and the unique cultural atmosphere of Chaozhou.
On such a historical and cultural land of Chaoshan region, 1-day tour is not enough. On May 14th, McGill students, buddies and teachers enjoyed the Nan’ao island trip, experiencing different sea culture.
The happy time is always short, it came to the last day of the summer trip to McGill's students in China, On May 15th, McGill students, professors and buddies from business school enjoyed the farewell party in 1981 bar together at May 15th. Buddies shared a lot of photos in these days and communicate with McGill students to keep the best memories. Dean Lv shared his own opinion about the exchange project and left his best wishes to the students from McGill. At last, all the participant cheered, and this unforgettable Summer Visiting Program came to the end successfully.
