The 9th international undergraduate business case competition: CaseIT MIS Case Competition, hosted by the Simon Fraser University was held in Vancouver, Canada from 6th- 9th, 2013. Phoenix consulting team passed the preliminary round and they defeated more than 40 teams from all over the world.
CaseIT MIS Case Competition is aims at offering students from all around the world with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge that they have obtained in the classroom to real-life business scenarios through strategic IT analysis and presentation. As a famous case competition, CaseIT 2013 had attracted 16 universities from China, Singapore, New Zealand, America, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, and Canada. The Phoenix Consulting team, formed by Yang YE (2009International Trade), HuaChao Chen (2009 Business Administration) and Peixia Deng (2010 Accounting) was led by instructor Kingkng Wu on behalf of Business School , Shantou University to participate the competition.
The Phoenix Consulting team was actively involved in a variety of activities. They experienced the fierce competition, enjoyed the beauty of Canada as well as participated in a variety of social activities. In addition, the Phoenix Consulting team has accumulated skills of case analysis and has made a great improvement in social ability.
【Communication with the organizer and sponsors】
Our team had a great time with the professors of Simon Fraser University. It helped those professors get to know more about the Business School of Shantou University. In addition, CaseIT MIS Case Competition also offered a good chance for all the participants to talk to the senior managers of many famous companies likes SAP、CGI、ORBIS, etc. Through the conversation with those managers, participants of our school had a better understanding of the needs of the modern companies as well as the direction of future development of themselves.
【Experienced the fierce competition】
Theme of CaseIT 2013 MIS Case Competition was mobility: world within reach. The competition was divided into two sections. The first section was the discussion panel and the second section was the 24-hour deliberation period without stored data.
The 16 teams were divided into 4 groups. Winner of each group was qualified to the final round. The champion team came from the semi-finals. Based on the result of 6th Jan, our team was assigned to group 4 of 4th appearance.
Each team needed to go through the 24-hour deliberation period without stored data. What’s more, it also had to present its analysis and recommendation in 20 minutes. Followed was the Q&A section in 10 minutes. Even though our team was the last to present, our analysis and recommendation was highly appreciated by all the judges.
【Introduced Business School of Shantou University】
At the beginning of the corporate function, our teammates distributed brochures and postcards of Shantou University. This helped others participants had a better understanding of our school. Moreover, the phoenix consulting team won a burst of warm applause from the audience with their humorous performance. Because their performance was so interesting that many participants wanted to have a more in-depth conversation with them after the corporate function.

As the organizer of CaseIT 2013 MIS Case Competition,Simon Fraser University had arranged a variety of activities for all the participants which included pubbing, discover Vancouver, clubbing at Joseph Richards, communicating with University of British Columbia etc. This offered a good chance for all teams to experience the colorful life of Vancouver. It also helped our team to be good friend of other participants.
