The 5th (2011) Academic Seminar of the Business School was held on 8nd April. Professor Wang Ran of Institute of Industrial Economics, Jinan University was invited to give a lecture on 'institutional environment, entrepreneurs, function deployment and economic growth'. Professor Yao Hongxin chaired the seminar.
Professor Wang based his research on a model created by himself, in which enterprise owners, residents and government departments are employed as factors in analysing micro behaviours. Professor Wang's conclusion is that the pace of economic growth depend on the level of innovation and creativity of enterprise owners. The level of such activities, as well as rent-seeking behaviours, are largely shaped by internal factors such as institutional environment and market competition. The level of cost and rent-seeking, as claimed by Wang, increases as market competitiveness increases, and vice versa.
The unique opinions and arguments presented by Professor Wang had made the lecture a refreshing and inspiring one.
