Ever pictured how a fire spark can light up a prairie fire? This is not a news story but an old Chinese metaphor describing that a significant event may be constituted by sets of matters which were initially perceived as irrelevant or insignificant. This commonly quoted metaphor is now applied to the 2010 Business School’s Top 10 Singers Competition of which the preliminary round was held at the Labour Union Building on 11th November. Attempting to light up a ‘fire of music revolution’, the organizers and competitors are preparing to ignite and inflame the passion for singing.
Held as a sequential annual event, this year’s competition is participated by 48 sets of competitors. Secretary Li Yue of the CPC general branch, Mr Zeng Rui, Ms Su Bingtian, Ms Cui Weiwei, Ms Meng Fancun and last year’s winner Gao Di were invited to judge the competition. Grade 2010 students Zhang Yi, Wu Chujun and Chen Channa hosted the preliminary round.
Talents were not restricted to solo and chorus, but also in musical instrument performance. Impressively performed ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ and guitar play-and-sing ‘bringing my girlfriend home’ received the most thumb-ups.
Solo performers Fu Linhui, Lin Guichuan, Zhang Jun, Deng Zhi, Tao Ting, Lin Yinfang, Chen Jingyuan, Pan Yijian, Li Fenghua, Wu Xiaoling, Pan Peihong and bands of Bass, AS, Light4, Wuyecao entered the final round.
