Passion and Enthusiasm--Outdoor Challenge Training 2010

Time : 2010-11-02

Under the guidance of Business School CPC general branch and co-organized by the Youth Committee and MBA education centre and the MBA coursework team, the outdoor challenge training for grade 2010 students was successfully held on 30th October at Dayang Lakeview Resort in Jieyang. Training participants include grade 2010 undergraduates, postgraduates and students of MBA coursework. Dean Xu Zongling, Senior Consultant of Student Affairs Associate Prof. Chen Motian, Secretary Li Yue and deputy secretary Chen Yinlin of CPC general branch, as well as teaching and administrative staff of the Business School attended the event.

Taking a short break after nearly 3 hours of bus ride, the first activity on site was mountain climbing. The picture-perfect scenic views along the journey uphill, including stretching mountain range, orderly terraced tea gardens and mountainside golf course, kept students busy with their cameras. Attractions towards the end of the route added surprises with gorgeous fading green water of the Qingren (lovers) Lake and the barren Huoyan (Flaming) mountain which reminded the climbers of the stories in the classical Chinese literature 'The Journey to the West'.

Following the scenic viewing activities was the most anticipated camping and barbeque. Setting up tents successfully in the meadow required students to work jointly in their respective teams. Being the first time of camping for most students, the tent setting process provided an enjoyable experience of mateship and sense of collectivity.

Getting out of the looked-as-if warm and comfortable tents, students began to participate in the elaborately designed activities and games of the training, including Wheel of Life and Delivering Water of Life, which were aimed to enhance students’ sense of collectivity and promote the consciousness of the importance of teamwork.

After a full scheduled day, the event concluded with a barbeque dinner. Poor lighting condition after sun set did not stop students’ enthusiasm for the tempting barbequed food, nor did the significantly dropped temperature chill the passion of being part of a big family. The stunning night sky filled with brightly shining stars became the bigger tent under which students lied in the meadow and shared with each other stories and laughter.

Despite the long and bumpy bus rides, the only outdoor challenge training during the four years of university life is definitely going to remain as a precious memory for some students.
