After three and a half months’ intense Competition, the 50th ICBSC (International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition) has finished on April 26
th, 2014. ICBSC was initiated in 1965. Up to now, it has become one of the most age-old and professional business strategic management competitions in the world. During the competition, participants have to run a company using a web-based program—BPG program. Besides, writing a strategic business plan and an annual report are also required. As the last step, competing teams should do a presentation to report the achievements of their companies to the board.
In all, 33 teams participated in ICBSC 2014 representing universities in America, Canada, UK, and China, etc. On behalf of Shantou University Business School, Lingling Sun (2011 International Economy and Trade), Jiahui Huang (2012 Finance), Yunjing Ouyang (2011 Finance), and Xiaojia Chen (2011 Accounting) composed Empire Co., which gratifyingly won the Runner-up.

【Review of the competition】
The competition can be mainly divided into three stages, the remote game lasting for 11 weeks, writing the strategic business plan along with the annual report, and three-day live competition. The competition began at 22nd, January. We decided the managing team (CEO: Lingling SUN, VP Marketing: Jiahui HUANG, COO: Yunjing OUYANG, CFO: Xiaojia CHEN), name of our company—EMPIRE CO. and our product—perfumes After three-month remote competition, we finally got to the live competition in which we made decisions for two day and reported our achievements to the board of directors in the third day.
【Social Activities】
During the three days in Anaheim, we participated in the opening ceremony, the social party and the award banquet. We also communicated with the judges and teams from different universities and built up friendship with them.
【Our Feelings】
This competition gives us a fantastic and impressive experience. It shows us how important perseverance and team spirits are. We also learn more about the international ideas about business and aware the importance of the business strategy for companies’ operation. Our success depends on the guidance of Pro. King WU, as well as the ELC teacher—Chanchal and Sohani. We sincerely appreciate the support from Li Ka-shing Foundation.
