On 31st March, Mr Ye Qichang and his wife Ms Fang Dan, former students of STU Business School who finished their finance degrees in 2002, were invited to give a lecture in the 10th Alumni Seminar to the current students. Coming back to Shantou University after years studying and working in the UK, the couple was keen to share their experience with the undergrads. Professor Lin Jiali of STU Business School chaired the seminar. Professor Lin Danming, Vice President of the university, and Ms Meng Fancun and Ms Cui Weiwei were invited to the lecture.
Drew from his own experiences, Mr Ye shared with the audiences his stories when he was an undergrad, as well as his observation of the cultural and educational differences between China and the UK. The process of pursuing academic and professional goals (Mr Ye holds a number of postgraduate and doctorate degrees with various well known universities, including Birmingham University, Cambridge University and King's College of London University), as he claimed, is also the trajectory of realizing self-esteem.
Ms Fang Dan, on the other hand, started her talks by showing some pictures of her times as a student in the UK. She advised the students to attempt to gain practical experiences through opportunities such as internship and case analysis. On top of that, she also briefly introduced the functioning of private real estate funds, investment banking and accounting firms in trying to explain to the undergrads the relevance between principles and practices.
The profound information provided by the lecturers, as claimed by some attendees, has offered tremendous advices for them in preparing for their future.
