The 12th West Lake International Conference on Small & Medium Business (WLICSMB 2010) was held between 24th to 26th October in Hangzhou. Participants of the conference include scholars and experts from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Ireland, India, Singapore, Macau and Hong Kong, as well as representatives and professionals from universities and research institutions for SMB development across China. Dr. Zhao Peihua from Shantou University Business School was invited to the conference and established communication and contacts with the participants.
District Associate Director of US Small Business Administration Mr. Ronald E. Bew gave a lecture on 'The History of SBA and the Current Reform on SMB Program Facing Economic Recession in USA'. Professor J. D. Agarwal from Indian Institute of Finance conveyed his opinions on 'Technological Innovation and Climate Change to boast Sustainable Development and
Employment in turbulent times of Global Financial Crisis'. Professor Werner Fees from Georg Simon Ohm Management Institute spoke from an academic viewpoint on 'Company Age and Innovation Management in China's SMEs An Empirical Study'.
In the parallel sessions, experts and academics established discussions and exchanged ideas on SMB management and development, E-Business and IT system management, marketing, innovation, social responsibilities and HR management of SMB, entrepreneurship and international cooperation among SMBs.
The first WLICSMB was held in October 1999 and has since then been attracting attention of and receiving supports from SMB, academia and official authorities both domestically and internationally. Aimed to strengthen communication and contacts among SMBs and academics, enhancing competitive edge of SMBs, the WLICSMB has become a prominent part of the West Lake International Expo of Hangzhou. Moreover, the conference also has been serving as a cross-industry, multi-realm platform for discussion, research and communication.
