In the afternoon of August 24, 2015, Business School Dean Lu participated in the ‘Spread Love Ice Bucket Challenge’ social welfare event launched officially at Star Lake Commercial Centre in Shantou City.
This event, organized by Shantou e-commerce industry association, information services and software industry association and high-tech business association, and co-sponsored by the Beijing network, served to raise funds through the spread of love. The funds will be donated to STU Medical No 2 Hospital’s foundation for the treatment of leukemia in the department of pediatrics.
‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ is the latest global social welfare activity, and at the Shantou Ice Bucket Challenge event that took place at 5.00pm, all the invited official guests took turns to experience the ice chilling bucket bath. Dean Lu Yuan of STU Business School and Vice-President Ma Lian of STU Medical No 2 Hospital were among the 20 over participants who took up the challenge with each designating the next participant in line. The surrounding spectators who witnessed the event, were eager to also take part in the challenge as well as made donations. Many of the invited guests unanimously agreed that this event signaled a new form of social welfare concept for Shantou that incorporates fun into welfare activities to encourage better understanding and acceptance.
