The Business School's 9th Academic Seminar was held on 28nd April at ACC. Guest lecturer, Dr Ou Jingwen of Sydney University, Australia, gave his lecture on the Coordination of Freight Trucks in Logistic Airports. Professor Bu Xiangzhi of Business School chaired the seminar.
Dr Ou first shared with the attendees the objective and background of his research-in the case of HK International Airport-prolonged processing time for freights due to the insufficient coordination systems adopted. Repercussions arose include increased cost and inventory piled-up cargos. In his research, Dr Ou developed a model which he has based his analysis on to try to find out the optimal timing and distribution configurations. He was then able to reach his conclusion that discounts could be used to encourage freight couriers' timly delivery. Such an approach, Dr Ou belived, would be more sufficient than the conventional FIFO system, thus be able to save cost and time.
Dr Ou's research has provided practical and referencial guides for some major air lines and couriers.
